Accommodation

Host Family

Type A

Single room / B&B or half board
Host family accommodation is an important part of students’ stay in Palma de Mallorca. Living in a Spanish household will help students gain familiarity with the Spanish language and also help them experience the Spanish culture. Most families live near the school and are rarely more than 20 minutes away by public transport. All of our host families live in flats, as there are practically no individual houses in Palma. Apartment buildings (both old and modern) are rarely more than 8 floors high. A typical flat will have 3 or 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and living room. Some flats have terraces; almost all of them have balconies. It is difficult to describe a typical family as there is such a variety; some are young couples, some have children still living at home, others, perhaps the majority, have grown-up children who no longer live at home (but often appear for lunch on Sundays!). Lunch is usually eaten quite late (around 2.30pm) and the evening meal is usually about 9.00pm.
Type B

Single room (ensuite) / B&B or half board
The Spanish school in Palma has a limited number of host families who live in larger apartments and who can also offer students their own private bathroom. These families will also undertake to do their students’ washing and ironing. The higher prices charged for these families reflect the extra services and facilities they provide.

Shared apartments

The Spanish school in Palma de Mallorca has a number of furnished apartments available for rent that students can share with other students on a single room, self-catering basis. The normal minimum period for renting an apartment is 2 weeks. All apartments are centrally located and are therefore between 10-20 minutes from the school on foot or by public transport.
Students normally have their own individual bedroom although some larger rooms are also available for two or more students. Students travelling to Palma with friends or family can therefore request to share a bedroom in an apartment.

Apart from a bed each bedroom also contains a desk and at least one wardrobe. Each apartment also has a kitchen, bathroom and living room which students share. These apartments are fully furnished and facilities include a washing machine and TV.

The school tries to place students of a similar age and of the same gender together in the same apartment where possible.

Transfer

A transfer service is available at an extra cost for students learning Spanish who wish to be met at Palma Airport or the bus/train station and taken to their accommodation. Alternatively students can take a taxi or bus from the airport to their accommodation in Palma de Mallorca.

Leisure

The Spanish school in Palma de Mallorca organises a varied programme of social activities for our Spanish students. These include a welcome cocktail, visits and excursions to places of interest in and around Palma, films in Spanish, and exchange evenings at which students can meet and talk with some of our other students who are learning English or German in the school.

The school also organise excursions to towns and places of interest outside Palma at an extra cost.. These excursions are organised twice a month during the summer months and once a month during the rest of the year.

The Social Programme is changed frequently so that students staying for longer periods will not have to repeat specific activities. All students are given a copy of the Social Programme planned for the following 2-week period when they arrive.
A typical 2-week social programme may be as follows:
Week 1

  • Monday: Welcome to Palma cocktail
  • Tuesday: Guided tour of the Old Quarter and Cathedral
  • Wednesday: Free day
  • Thursday: Visit to Can Joan de s’aigo
  • Friday: Evening visit to some ‘tapas’ bars or to a disco
