The school has its own residence which are located in the city centre of Hamburg. The Hamburg school is a large school and now one of the biggest schools in Germany. It has 80 classrooms whereby 18 languages are taught but with teaching German as a foreign language as their core subject. The residence is located in the same building as the school. The school also has a specialist language book store.

The schools advantageous location directly in the city centre in Hamburg’s oldest pedestrian zone 'Colonnaden', inspires all our students and enables us to offer a perfect learning and living atmosphere.


Standard course

This German course is suitable for students that want a general German course focusing on the four key language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. Suitable for students with previous knowledge of German or complete beginners. Students can study for a few weeks, months or even a whole year.

Combined course

Students follow the Standard German course and have an extra 5 private lessons each week depending on how intensive a course they desire. Perfect for students that want the diversity of a group course but would like a few private lessons to focus on a specific area of the language, topic or exam.

Private tuition

20, 25 or 30 private lessons per week. Lessons can be tailored to the needs and requirements of the students, to a particular subject or focusing on a specific exam. Students can have private lessons on a 2 to 1 basis providing they are of a similar ability.

German and Sailing course

The German and Sailing course comprises of the German standard Course 5 plus a basic sailing course at Hamburg’s sailing school 'Segelschule Käpt’n Prüsse'.

The sailing course is a practical course and students must be able to swim in order to participate in the course. The necessary theory will be explained during the sailing lesson on board. The boats are jolly boats of different sizes. Mastering the use of tiller and sheet rope and attaining the ability to take decisions independently on board are the main aims of the course. Students have 2 options (depending on the level of sailing experience):
1. 10 double periods of 60 minutes of practice: 4 double periods of 60 minutes with sailing teacher on board, 6 double periods of 60 minutes without sailing teacher
2. 6 double periods of 60 minutes of practice with sailing teacher on board

Host Family

A host can be a family or a single person. Some hosts are married, others not. They have many different professions and are of all ages and social strata.
Our hosts offer students a special opportunity to practice their German after school and on the weekends. We work with over 50 households in Hamburg, all have been inspected by the school, and many have been hosting our students for many years.
Students have their meals with the host person/s or families and they only talk in German. The average distance from the school is about 20 minutes by bus or
underground (maximum up to 45 minutes).

Students can choose self-catering /breakfast / half board

Single room

In every family you get a single room equipped with at least one chair, table, bed and wardrobe. You will also receive towels and bedlinen by your host family. You will, of course, have use of bathroom, kitchen and laundry.

Bed & breakfast or half board

You can book host families with or without meals. You may choose between with breakfast or half board. Half board with a host family includes breakfast and a warm meal, which is mostly in the evenings with your host family.

Student Residence

Minimum age 18 yrs. Minimum stay is 4 weeks.

The Colón Residence is located in the school building directly in Hamburg city centre in a quiet pedestrian zone.

All rooms are cleaned daily (Mon-Fri). Students receive fresh bedlinen and towels regularly. A self-service-laundry is located near the residence. The Residence offers a pantry area with fridge, coffee machine, water cooker and dishes. Cooking facilities are not available.

Single, double or triple rooms

Students can book either single, double or triple rooms in the Student Residence. All rooms have their own television with satellite receiver. For students with their own laptop, the residence offers wireless internet-access. A coin operated telephone is also available.

Shared Apartments

Minimum age 18 yrs. Minimum stay is 4 weeks.

This type of accommodation is for younger and independent students who wish to travel on a low budget.

Germans who share their apartment are of all ages and social strata. They are either university students, families or pensioners. Or they are already an existing flat-sharing community who are looking for a new flatmate. Shared apartments are suitable for language students who wish to be independent and are prepared to arrange things for themselves, like going shopping, cooking, doing the washing, cleaning their room.

Single room

Your room is equipped with at least one chair, table, bed and wardrobe. You will also receive towels and bedlinen by your hosts. You will, of course, have use of bathroom and kitchen.


A transfer can be arranged from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel and Hamburg-Lübeck airport at an extra cost.


In addition to tuition, the school also offers a programme of cultural and leisure activities as well as full day excursions at the weekend.
